About us

Oxford Blockchain Society

Oxford Blockchain Society was founded in 2016, making it one of the first and longest-running blockchain societies in the UK. Since then we have grown into a vibrant and active community of blockchain enthusiasts, with members from across Oxford University and beyond.

We work together with other universities and organisations to advance the growth of the blockchain ecosystem — co-hosting events, sharing resources and expertise, and collaborating with other university blockchain societies on initiatives that benefit the broader community.

As a member-led organisation we have always been committed to the principles of decentralisation and self-governance. We are exploring becoming a Decentralised Autonomous Organisation, so that members have even more control and ownership over the direction and operations of the society.

  • Jacob Steeves on Bittensor

    The Bittensor co-founder joined us at Oxford for a talk on decentralised machine intelligence, followed by a fully funded formal dinner at Rewley House.

  • Cantor Bytes

    July 2026 · Cantor8 university initiative

    Co-organised as part of the Cantor8 university programme, connecting Oxford members with builders across the wider ecosystem.

  • Oxford Blockchain Conference 2024

    12–13 March 2024 · Wadham College & Oxford Town Hall

    A two-day, 1000-capacity conference of keynotes, workshops, and a founder pitching competition — one of the UK's largest student-led blockchain events.
